The new logo depicts an ankh surrounded by an Ouroboros. The term “Ouroboros” goes back to the Roman era of ancient Egypt, but the concept itself goes back to right after the Amarna period. The Ouroboros has become fairly common as a pagan symbol meaning the cycle of life, but originally, according to Erik Hornung in Conceptions of God in Ancient Egypt, it meant “the regenerating nonexistence that encircles the world” (page 164, 1996 printing). Since, in the atheist view, the gods don’t exist, I thought this was a neat way to unite the Kemetic and the atheist in one image.
