Criticism of Religion

Drawing the line in Oregon

Happy New Year! Sorry it’s been a while since I’ve written. I thought about writing a New Year post, but decided I didn’t really have anything worthwhile to say (“goody, another chance to blow New Year’s resolutions” – that’s probably what i would have said, had I written anything). And it’s not my intention to waste anybody’s time with this blog, so I chose to remain silent.

But I have something to talk about now, so the time for silence is ended.

I know I said that all religious experiences are valid. (Did I really say that? Why did I say that?) Sometimes I wish I hadn’t said that.

Like when lunatics claim the Lord inspired them to break the law. (Really? You think your god told you to take over a federal wildlife refuge? Seriously?)

Okay, the video at this link doesn’t actually say that literally. But if you read between the lines, that’s what it says.

I’m all for respecting other people’s beliefs and experiences, but at some point you have to draw the line and say, “This is crazy.” And I choose to draw that line precisely when your god, whom you claim is good, tells you to break the law. I don’t believe any good deity would do that (and if that’s what your god is telling you, maybe this being shouldn’t be your god anymore).

I think the Bundy sons have a virulent case of religionitis.
